今晩は待ちにまったWeakerthansのライブに行きます！前回Weakerthansがバンクーバーに来た時は、ライブに行く直前にチケットを見つけれなくて行けなかったのです。チケットが入っていた封筒をシュレッダーにかけちゃったような微かな記憶が。。。(ToT) ど、どアホ！チケットも売れ切れで、どうにもこうにも行けませんでした。今日はチケットなくしませんから！ Weakerthansはカナダのマニトバ州、Winnipegの出身。私達が好きなアルバムは「Reconstruction site」。とても聴きごごちのよいポップなロックです。ここで試聴できます。 We are going to a live concert of the Weakerthans tonight, which we’ve been longing for. Sideways

アカデミー賞にノミネートされた話題作、Sidewaysを観た。結婚直前と離婚直後の男性２人がカリフォルニアのワイナリー巡り旅行に出かけ、旅の途中、女性２人に遭遇する。ワインの話もたくさん出てくる。ドライな恋愛物語。監督のAlexander Payneは2002年にAbout Schmidtを監督している。あれも結構リアルな映画だった。主演俳優のPaul Giamattiは、良い俳優だ、と思う。 We watched a film, Sideways, which is much talked about and was nominated for Academy awards. Rollerblading

日が長くなり、外はまだ明るい。明るいと人は外に出るみたい。今晩私達も外に出た。私はローラーブレードで、彼はジョギングに。私は数ヶ月ローラーブレードをしていなかった。ローラーブレードを履いて滑り始めた途端、コケる！お尻を痛めたが、ローラーブレードを続ける。スタンレー公園にはたくさんの人がいた。↑は最初のスナップショット。 The days are getting longer and it’s still bright outside. Fire Hall No. 6

毎日何気なく前を歩いていた消防署。よく見ると、“Heritage Building” だった。Heritage Buildingは現在バンクーバーに2,500程ある。Heritage Building とは築２０年以上で文化的伝統価値を持っていると Heritage 委員会に認定された建物。Heritage Building はこのようなパネルが組み込まれていて、建物の歴史的背景を読むことが出来る。それによれば、この消防署は1907年に建設され、北米で一番最初の消防車を格納できる消防署だそうだ。もうすぐ、１００歳ですねぇ。１世紀に渡り、お疲れ様です! Bakke

秋田に帰省している叔母が写メールを送ってくれた。「ばっけ」取りしてるそうだ。「ばっけ」とは秋田で「ふきのとう」のこと。英語ではbutterbur scape。秋田の県花だそうです。璃子さんのブログに素敵なばっけの写真があった（叔母の写真も素敵だよぉ）。 My aunt who is now in her hometown, Akita, sent us a photo from her mobile. バンクーバーは週末夏のような天気でした。 This weekend was like summer in Vancouver. 鷺（サギ）さんも人間さんと一緒に日向ぼっこ。 A heron was sun bathing with human beings. ホットドッグスタンドは大繁盛！ The hot dog stand was having a good business day. パブも大繁盛！ This pub was having a good business day as well!

Ice hockey

アイスホッケーはカナダの国技なのに、ここ1年間ゲームがない。日本でいうと相撲が1年ないのと一緒である。ＮＨＬはプロの北米一大きいアイスホッケーリーグだが、そのプレーヤー達がストライキをしている。年俸何億円ももらっているのに、もっと年棒を上げて欲しいんだそうだ。守銭奴ですねぇ。カナダ国民も相当怒っています。 Although ice hockey is Canada’s national sport, there have been no games for a year. こないだ、ある居酒屋で飲んでたら、店の前に車を停めた白髪の男性がいた。 この人だった！ We were drinking in a pub the other day and a man with white hair parked in front of the pub. It was him! 家に帰る途中、発見したものを二つ。バンクーバーにはLululemonというヨガウェアブランドがあって、とても流行っています。外国にも店舗を増やしているようで、オーストラリアやカリフォルニア、なんと東京にもあります。バンクーバーのRobson通りのお店は女の子達で混雑していますが、その１０軒隣くらいに、似たような店がオープンしました。 Two things that I found on the way home recently. 山椒太夫、Sansho the Bailiff

ヴェネチア国際映画賞祭銀獅子賞受賞した溝口健二監督の1954年の作品。原作は森鴎外。盗賊が母と子供二人を引き裂き、子供二人は意地悪な荘園主、山椒太夫の元へ奴隷として売られ、母親は遊女として売り飛ばされる。これだけで、すごい憂鬱になりそうでしょ？映画は日本の平安時代を映し出していて、美しいが、ストーリーが酷すぎる。 This film was directed by Kenji Mizoguchi in 1954 and received Silver Lion in Venice international film festival.
