第２１回Vancouver Sun Run 10KMマラソンに出た。Sun Runは北米で２番目に大きな１０ＫＭマラソンで、今日も４万７千人が集まった。去年、私の会社でチームを結成し、今年は２度目の出場となった。嬉しいことに、今年はオフィススタッフの約半数が、チームに参加した。 I participated in the 21st Vancouver Sun Run 10km marathon. Evergreen Building

Evergreen Building 1285 West Pender St. (map) Evergreen Building　（日本語に訳すと「常緑ビル」かな？）はカナダで指折りの建築家、Arthur Ericksonによってデザインされた。ダウンタウンにあるオフィス用ビルで、各オフィスにバルコニーがついている。バルコニーからはノースバンクーバーの山々が見渡せる。素敵でしょ？このビルは電気会社、BC Hydroの元会長、Laxton氏が所有している。彼はこの建物に４階分増築して居住用アパートに改築するつもりだった。しかし、市がこの改築を認めなかったため、Laxton氏は、このEvergreenビルを壊して超高層ビルを建てるしか方法がないという結論に至った。OH NO! Marine Building

Marine Buildingは1930年に建設され、１９３９年までバンクーバーで一番高いビルだった。Marine Buildingはアール・デコ調の装飾が美しい。飛行船なんてとっても「モダン」な絵で、ニューヨークスタイルに影響されているらしいのだ。このビルの前を通ったら、中に入って下さい。ここのサイトからでもその装飾の詳細を下見できます。 Marine building was built in 1930 and it was the tallest building until 1939. ありがたやぁ〜　ニッポン土産 Umbilical cord とは日本語でへその緒のこと。妊婦さんのToonieちゃんは日本からたくさんの赤ちゃんグッズをゲット。その中の一つが、赤ちゃんのへその緒用木製の小箱。 The umbilical cord is Heso no o (cord of naval) in Japanese. A pregnant lady, Tooni-chan, got lots of baby goods from Japan. One of them is a wooden box for her baby’s umbilical cord. 日本人はへその緒を取っておく。これは昔からの慣習。Toonieちゃんから分かったことなんだけど、カナダで赤ちゃんを産む場合は、ごみ箱に捨てられる前に、へその緒下さいとお医者さんか看護婦さんにリクエストしとかないといけないんだって。日本の病院はへその緒を干して渡してくれるがカナダは違う。大抵、ジップロックの袋に入れられて渡され、自分で血抜きをして、干さないといけないらしい。 … Continue reading →

今朝はお日様がでていた。スタバコーヒーをEngilish Bayで飲んだ。 This morning was sunny. We had Starbucks coffee at English Bay. 行く途中、花がたくさん咲いていた。 Lots of flowers were blooming on the way there.
